Tours:
Chaco Canyon - is the epitome of
the Chacoan Anasazi culture and is recognized internationally as a
World Heritage Site. Pueblo Bonito, a Chacoan Great House
built between AD 950 and 1115 is just one of the great houses the
tour investigates.
Pueblitos of Dinetah - are unique
to Northwestern New Mexico. The pueblitos stand as testimony to the
resourcefulness and knowledge of the Navajo Indians. Built
between AD 1550 and 1750, these "small villages" served as
sanctuaries from the Spanish and marauding tribes. Pueblo
Indians fleeing the Spanish after the Pueblo Revolt of 1692 would
often find refuge in the pueblitos.
Salmon Ruin - was the first Chacoan
Great House built in the San Juan Valley. In addition to the Pueblo,
the museum and Heritage Park have examples of Basketmaker, early
Navajo, and Historic homes and artifacts. The gift shop offers
a variety of handcrafted Native American pottery, jewelry, folk art,
etc. at very reasonable prices.
Aztec Ruins - were mistakenly
identified by early settlers as belonging to the Aztecan Culture of
Mexico. We now know that it is the largest Chacoan Great House
constructed outside the canyon. Like it's sister site, Salmon Ruin,
Aztec Ruin was built and used over a 200 year period. The
Anasazi abandoned the area sometime around AD 1300.
Rock Art - Enjoy many of the
intriguing rock art sites in the area. Experience the art and
religion of the Anasazi and Navajo through their often
thought-provoking pictographs and petroglyphs.
Bisti Badlands - is a remote area
of steeply eroded badlands offering a world of strange rock
formations and fossils.
Customized Tours - We can customize
your tour to fit your specific needs and ideas. Try a
combination of rock art/Ruins Tour or a two day trip to the mines of
the Silverton/Ouray, Colorado area. We also conduct tours to
Mesa Verde and the Cortez, Colorado area.
